how to mitigate the odor post-treatment?Updated 9 months ago

in the salon

  • before beginning the treatment, advise the client that there may be a residual smell to wet hair after use of the product
  • use only the recommended amount of product to lightly saturate the hair, without over saturating
  • try using a chelating/metal detox treatment if you suspect there is hard water at your salon, prior to applying the smooth over treatment, after rinsing out the shampoo
  • ensure the shampoo stage is executed thoroughly, re-cleanse the hair if there is extra build-up
  • look into hard water filters – as a bonus, this investment will likely give your clients a better hair condition and help with color!
  • ensure the hair is 100% dry prior to using the flat iron, if using the straight method
  • ensure the hair is 100% dry after diffusing using the curly method
  • ensure the treatment is thoroughly rinsed out of the hair after the first blow dry, diffuser, and/or flat iron stages are complete
  • ensure the salon is properly ventilated
  • be certain clients are waiting 48 hours (about 2 days) prior to washing the hair
  • do not exceed the recommended temperature to avoid unwanted chemical reactions:
  • for fine color-treated or chemically treated hair: 360f
  • for medium to coarse color-treated or chemically treated hair: 410f
  • for fine virgin hair: 400f
  • for medium to coarse virgin hair: 420f

once you get home

  • wait 48 hours after your treatment to wash your hair
  • look into hard water filters to reduce the likelihood that unwanted chemical catalysts are coming into contact with your hair in your shower.
